Yalumba The Octavius Shiraz

‘A unique Barossa Shiraz style highlighting superb vineyard provenance, singularity of style and authenticity of origin.’

Yalumba The Octavius Shiraz is connected to the earliest beginnings of South Australia’s wine industry. Forged from the Barossa’s oldest vineyards and matured in Yalumba-coopered oak, it epitomizes the ambitions of the Hill-Smith family where storied history, craftsmanship and modernity offer something special and unique in the world of wine. The Octavius symbolises the essence of great Barossa Shiraz. Ancient vines, pure expressive fruit and imaginative winemaking combine with some of the oldest geology in the world and the pristine environment of the Barossa region.

About Yalumba

The Yalumba story started with Samuel Smith venturing across the seas from England to a small town called Angaston in South Australia. He founded Yalumba in 1849, planting the first vine under moonlight with his son, Sidney. His bold, pioneering spirit has passed through the generations, influencing each of Yalumba’s proprietors throughout the years; Sidney Smith, Walter Smith, and Wyndham Hill-Smith, all the way through to our fifth generations proprietor today, Robert Hill-Smith.

About Robert Hill-Smith

Robert originally joined Yalumba in 1971 working in the vintage cellar, laboratory and vineyards. In1978 he travelled extensively through the wine regions of Europe and America doing harvest work at Ch. Rahoul [Bordeaux] & Domaine Dujac [ Burgundy] before returning in March 1979. On his return he joined the Samuel Smith & Son sales force and in 1981 joined the Yalumba marketing team, primarily responsible for exports. In 1983, he was appointed Marketing Manager and immediately began creating a new fine wine philosophy and brand strategy for the family business.
