Founded in 1880 in the Maipo Valley of Chile, Santa Rita’s “Casa Real” Reserva Especial is steeped in romantic 19th century heritage and modern wine ambitions.
Casa Real is the peak of one of Chile’s most venerable wine estates, with a fascinating history, reputation and consistency. It is culmination of Ricardo Claro’s dream to create a faithful exponent of the best terroir in Chile for Cabernet Sauvignon, able to stand side-by-side with the best wines of the world.
Viña Santa Rita’s story begins in 1880 with the visionary founder Don Domingo Fernández Concha, a prominent businessman and public figure of his time. Don Domingo’s pioneering spirit led him to introduce the finest French grape varieties to the rich soils of the Maipo Valley, along with state-of-the-art equipment and a team of skilled French winemakers. This infusion of talent and innovation brought previously unknown techniques to Chile, revolutionising winemaking in the country and producing truly outstanding results.
First vintaged in 1989, Casa Real Reserva Especial Cabernet Sauvignon represents the pinnacle of winemaking expression and terroir in the Alto Jahuel area of the Maipo Valley. Over three decades of refinements in the vineyard and winery have led to the development of timeless style based on respect, heritage and ambition. The limited release Casa Real Reserva Especial also reflects over 30 years commitment to advanced technology, precision vineyard management and sustainable practices. It is Viña Santa Rita’s flagship wine, highlighting the exquisite balance between nature and nurture.
In 2017, Sebastian Labbé joined Viña Santa Rita as the winemaker for their highly-regarded ‘ultra premium’ range, following his success as head winemaker at sister property Viña Carmen. Labbé was recently recognised in The Drinks Business as one of the 100 Best Winemakers in the world.
