Cloudburst

“Cloudburst is an enigma wrapped in a mystery and owner Will Berliner only does things by extremes. He doesn’t like machines and is deeply interested in sustainability, so his close-planted Margaret River vineyard is fully biodynamic and entirely operated by hand”

Cloudburst wines, from the far-flung Margaret River region on Australia’s remote west coast was created from one of the last blank canvases of nature. The minuscule block is entirely dry grown, and has never been cultivated, sprayed or tilled.

Despite being a relative newcomer through 200 years of Australian vine cultivation, Cloudburst has generated boundless reverence for winemaker and owner Will Berliner and the emergence of these scarce cult wines.

About Cloudburst

Australia’s leading cult wine was created by American biologist Will Berliner, on the wild and isolated southwestern corner of Australia in a biodiversity paradise. The one-hectare vineyard was planted in 2005, and has never been cultivated nor chemically sprayed. It is close-planted, own-rooted and non-irrigated, and has been farmed using biodynamic principles from inception. The vineyard benefits from the presence of well-drained ironstone gravel soils, and a supremely untainted natural environment within sound of the Indian Ocean.

About Will Berliner

As a successful entrepreneur and visionary filmmaker, Will Berliner adds winemaker to his repertoire with the launch of Cloudburst Wine in 2010. He brings a profound curiosity about nature and a reverent respect for terroir to his winemaking practice. An American, he moved to the Margaret River region with his Australian wife. Sensing a calling from his land, he decided to study viticulture at the University of California, Davis and learned about biodynamic practices.
